SUMMARY OF BEBB
HERBARIUM POLICIES
Hours
- The Bebb Herbarium is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through
Friday, except for holidays and when staff commitments do not permit
these hours.
After-hours
access - Unless special arrangements have been made, only
researchers with a key may be in the herbarium after hours.
After-hour users are responsible for turning off all lights and
locking the doors.
Smoking
- No smoking or tobacco use is allowed in the herbarium.
Pets
- No pets or animals are allowed in the herbarium.
Food
& beverage - No food or beverages are allowed in the
herbarium (room 206).
Library
- Herbarium Library materials may not be taken out of the library
without permission of the Curator or Herbarium Staff and signature on
a loan sheet. Persons with office space in the herbarium may use the
library materials at their desk for short periods of time.
Unfumigated
plant material (living or dead) - No unfumigated plant
material of any kind (living or dead) may be brought into the
herbarium.
Specimen
fumigation - ALL incoming plant material, whether shipped,
hand-carried, or removed from a plant press, must be boxed and frozen
in the Ultra-Low Freezer. Please check with herbarium staff for
procedures. All plant materials must be stored in a herbarium
cabinet.
Collecting
equipment - Plant presses and plant driers are available to
students and faculty. Please consult with the herbarium staff to
sign out equipment. Driers are located in room 212 GLCH.
Use
of collections - Please follow guidelines summarized under Use
of Collections and posted in the Herbarium. Usage of the
collections is contingent upon adherence to rules and regulations of
the Bebb Herbarium.
Computer
& Software Usage - Computers and software usage in the
herbarium (room 206) and the Systematics Research Lab (room 209) are
meant primarily for individuals conducting research in systematics
and for those associated with the Oklahoma Biological Survey. No
software is to be up- or downloaded without approval of the OBS
Senior Application Support Programmer, Dan Hough. Computers in individual
offices are off-limits for general usage unless special arrangements
have been made.
Plant
Identification and Information - Herbarium staff will
provide information and assistance to identify plants to OU faculty,
students, and staff, to individuals associated with the research
community and government agencies, and to qualified amateurs.
Fees
may be charged for services to for-profit organizations.
Visitors
- Visitors are welcome to visit the Bebb Herbarium during normal
hours of operation, Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. All
visitors must check in with herbarium staff and must agree to follow
herbarium rules before entry is permitted into the research
collection housed in room 206. We ask all visitors to sign the Guest
Register, which is located in the hallway next to the Goodman Foyer.
