Oklahoma Invasive Plant Council 


The Oklahoma Invasive Plant Council was created at the 2008 Oklahoma Invasive Plant Conference on July 24. The interim Board of Directors, as called for in the Bylaws for creating the council was chosen from the willing of a diverse group of representatives from stockholder agencies and organizations. They met at the conclussion of the conference to choose the officers to serve a single year term to be replaced by the vote of the members at the first Annual Meeting of the council.

Oklahoma Invasive Plant Council will provide:

· Identification and documentation of invasive plants and their distributions.
· Recognition of invasive plant problems with possible resolution.
· Establishing early detection and rapid response mechanisms.
· Ability to have some invasive plant control separate from State Government.
· Nonprofit status to accept tax exempt donations.
· Recruitment and direction for volunteers.
· An advocate for regulations and laws to control invasive plant introductions and spread to other areas in Oklahoma.
· General acceptance of regulatory policies.
